It was just announced a few days ago that Google has melded the best ideas from both InfiniBand & Crays “Aries” Interconnect and created Aquila. An entirely new distributed switching architecture as well as a new GNet protocol allowing for consistent & low latency performance that they’ve searched years for. Its definitely a huge moment for Google, but what about the IT industry in general?

1:34 | Nutanix’s CFO Leaves for Startup

Nutanix CFO Duston Williams has resigned, joining an unnamed startup company to “take on a new challenge.” Williams was an integral part of planning and transitioning the company into a subscription based model, which has been successful for Nutanix. Though we don’t know what this yet-to-be-named startup is, we do know that it is in a different market entirely. Williams will be replaced by Sr. VP of FInancial Analysis Rukmini Sivaraman and stay with the company until April 30 to help with the transition.

2:57 | Broadcom Launches Wi-Fi 7

Although it hasn’t been ratified or adopted yet, Wi-Fi 7 technology has come to market thanks to Broadcom. Supporting all three channels, 16 spatial streams, and channel widths up to 320 MHz, not to mention 4096-QAM, this Wi-Fi 7 hardware promises speeds up to 46 gigabits. Is this the dawn of Wi-Fi 7 or is something else happening here?

3:53 | Smart Brings Optane to AMD

Up to now, Intel’s Optane technology has been closely coupled to their Xeon Scalable server platform. But Smart Modular just announced a PCIe card that brings Optane memory to AMD’s server platform as well, and it uses Intel’s own FPGAs to do it. The Kestral AIC card has 2 TB of Optane DIMMs, and also includes an ARM CPU. What should we make of this?
