Too Many Communities

Lindsay Hill comments on his blog:

I have come to realise that I’ve tried to take part in too many communities, and it’s getting me down. Too many forums filled with too much noise, too many people not doing basic research. Too much time on my part to scroll through various RSS feeds & email lists. Time to re-evaluate what I’m doing, and why.

The problem of community sprawl is a big one. Every vendor wants their own community. Every user wants a community that’s useful. Every marketing person wants a community that they can sell too. Endless forking of talent to try and achieve the “perfect” balance. How much is too much?
