Imposter Syndrome | Tomversations: Episode 23

This month we look at Imposter Syndrome. How does it affect IT professionals? Why are you more likely to feel it the more successful you are? Are you really just lucky? Let’s break down why we feel the way we do and how your mentors can be a bigger help than you realize.

The more time we spend doing a role that is highly skilled the more likely we are to question ourselves or second guess what we’re capable of. The research about Imposter Syndrome goes back to the last 1970s and yet we still find ourselves struggling with it. Could it be because of the impact of social media and being a more connected society? Or perhaps it’s because we are so much more advanced in certain careers than in others. The likelihood that someone in an advanced engineering or architecture role in IT is going to feel like a fraud is higher than many other places. In this episode, we’ll try to figure out just why that is.
