Gartner Magic Quadrant — 3 Year Quadrant for x86 Server Virtualization

Matt Heldstab of Show me the Hypervi$or comments:

On July 9th, Gartner released their annual Magic Quadrant for x86 Server Virtualization.   I went ahead and superimposed the past three years in a chart to see the movement of all the major players in this space.

Please note, the chart was only created by using Adobe tools and is not scientific.   The borders of each chart were matched up to create it.

Each of the past years, VMware and Microsoft have been  named  as  leaders in this category.    Citrix has gone from a leader, to a visionary, to a niche player in this space.   In the past year, Gartner shows that Red Hat made the most progress.

This is brilliant. Having a static picture year-to-year shows you what a company is doing. Watching the tracks for several years shows you where they’re going. I wonder why Gartner doesn’t do this already?
