3:19 | Rubrik Attackers Exploited File Transfer System

Rubrik released details this week about their exposure to the ongoing Fortra GoAnywhere zero day. Rubrik’s CISO, Michael Mestrovich, posted about attackers using the vulnterability to get into non-production area of Rubrik’s environment, includin internal sales info such as partner company names and some purchase order data. No personally identifiable information was breached per the third party auditors. More importantly, Rubrik said in a secondary statment that no data held on behalf of customers was violated in the breach. The breach is another in a list of heists pulled off by the Russian-linked Clop gang. Tom, should Rubrik customers be worried?

6:50 | Microsoft Reveals Nvidia Powers Big AI Bets

We know you’re probably tired of hearing about ChatGPT at this point but an interesting story popped up this week ahead of Nvidia GTC. In a blog post, linked in the show notes, Microsoft revealed that the hardware that has been used to train the OpenAI models powering everyone’s favorite distraction are, in fact, A100 GPUs running over Infiniband. The A100, which we’ve covered several times on the show, is the flagship card that Nvidia has been touting as the way to build AI fast. With GTC coming next week and this news breaking now, can we expect to see updates on the AI GPU front Stephen?

10:33 | Qualcomm Tries to Dodge Fine for Dodgy Behavior

Longtime subject of the show Qualcomm is once again trying to convince the EU they shouldn’t pay a fine for breaking the rules. The EU forced the chipmaker to pay around $258 million for anti-competitive behavior back in 2019. Qualcomm is fighting against the ruling by claiming the commission that levied the fine is on a crusade against them and that the technology they’re accused of manipulating isn’t even that big of a market segment anyway. Qualcomm is no stranger to having their wrist slapped for things like this, as they have been found to have made payments to Apple in the past to keep their modems exclusively in the iPhone in the past. Tom, why would Qualcomm want to avoid paying this fine aside from the obvious?
