Pure Storage has grown from a scrappy upstart to an established player in enterprise storage, and Gestalt IT and Tech Field Day were there the whole time. From their first Field Day appearance in 2011 to today’s Tech Talks and Exclusive Field Day events, we have grown together over 10 years.
We dug back in the On-Premise IT Roundtable archives to bring you an episode originally recorded in 2016, but incredibly prescient today. The roundtable discusses how IT companies can differentiate in an age of increasing commoditization. They look at examples like DSSD, Kaminario, and SimpliVity as ways to differentiate hardware, albeit at a considerable expense of time and resources. They then turn to software, and discuss the wave of SDS products that turned out to be features. The discussion is fascinating because many of the trends identified in this discussion have now played out in one form or another.
In 2017, Gestalt IT presents three Storage Field Day events, bringing together our independent delegates with industry-leading companies. The first will be held March 8-10 in Silicon Valley, followed by June 14-16 in Denver, and November 8-10 in Silicon Valley. Video from all of our events is live-streamed for anyone to view, and comprehensive recordings are posted and shared for later consumption or review. The Storage Field Day community also has a thriving presence on Twitter, Facebook, and LinkedIn to continue conversations throughout the year.
Enrico Signoretti of Juku comments: Pure Storage is demonstrating to the world that this is not a startup any longer and is maturing very quickly. The product line up is growing as are the number of use cases Pure can now cover with its products. And it is still doing this with the speed and […]
Enrico Signoretti of Juku comments: B as in back-end of course! Even though I’m not an expert in containers, I really like them. My attraction to this technology started when it was first introduced on Sun Solaris and I had the opportunity to work with it. Now, of course, it is more appealing and portable than […]
Dan Frith of PenguinPunk comments: Woohoo! I’ll be heading to the US in just over a fortnight for another Storage Field Day event. If you haven’t heard of the very excellent Tech Field Day events, you should check them out. I’m looking forward to time travel and spending time with some really smart people for a few days. It’s also worth checking back on the SFD10 website during […]
