Scott Morris, the “world traveling Über-Geek,” is coming to his first Field Day event: Networking Field Day 21! Scott has four CCIE certifications (Routing & Switching, ISP/Dial, Security and Service Provider), as well as the coveted CCDE. He also has several expert-level certifications from other major vendors, including two Juniper Network’s JNCIEs, making him “multi-lingual” in the networking world. You can connect with Scott at @ScottMorrisCCIE on Twitter, the web, or the Tech Field Day website!
How did you get into Technology and IT?
Technology had always been a hobby when I was a kid, and it turned out to be more fun (and profitable) than my “chosen” career that I went to college for!
What do you do now?
CyberSecurity and large-scale network design. Otherwise, I travel around and try to have as much fun as possible while doing good work!
If you weren’t working in IT, what would you be doing instead?
Winning the lottery.
What are your biggest challenges?
Finding good people to hire. People don’t think like I do, and I have to get used to that.
How do you manage your work/life balance?
According to my wife, I don’t.
What are you most excited about seeing at the event?
Great question. This is my first time, so I’m quite excited to see what it’s all about and to go in to find the fire hose!
Where do you see IT going in the next 3-5 years?
Not sure if we want the snarky answer here, or a more meaningful one! I see lots of room for growth and expansion as the world becomes even more connected, but I see more people forgetting about the basics and underlying technologies as well, yielding a large skills gap.
What was your first computer?
It was an original IBM AT. 80286 at a whopping 6MHz! DUAL 5.25″ floppy drives!
What do you do in your spare time (hobbies)?
Do I have spare time? Occasionally. I still enjoy taking pictures (my college “chosen” profession), and get to do so now and then, typically at my kid’s sporting events.
If you could have ONE super power, what would it be?
Invisibility. I’m sure I’d use it for nefarious purposes.
What is your favorite movie?
I’m not entirely sure I have a favorite… I like different genres at different times. I guess if I had to pick one, it would be Real Genius. And I’m not sure I can give full details about the favorite parts in a public forum, but needless to say, the pranks.
What is your favorite kind of ice cream?
Plain old vanilla kinda guy. Plenty of hot fudge though. Perhaps a banana if I’m feeling decadent. In a bowl.
Thanks for sharing with us, Scott! We will see you soon at Networking Field Day 21!
