How did you get into technology and IT?
My first computer was HP-150 touchscreen – Intel 8088 @ 8 MHz dual floppy, 256k RAM (adjusted for inflation is $7k retail) and the original inkjet printer (I was 12). At 14, I was consulting PC projects, like multimedia authoring DVD’s. Professional PC tech monkey after my BS in Biology and Chemistry minor. It was a hiatus for my PhD aspirations.
What do you do now? Tell us a little about your current role.
I am a Senior Solutions Architect, Pre Sales and Post Sales delivery. I am a Virtualization and HCI Specialist. Subject Matter Expert in BCDR, storage, and diving deeper into DevOps (containers, PKS, K8s), as well as cloud architecture. I design and implement solutions for commercial and SLED organizations. I assist customers with virtualization enablement and reconciling business requirements with a solid strategic tech road map.
What are your biggest challenges?
Finding enough time in a 24 hr day.
What was your first computer? What was great about it?
HP 150 Touchscreen (see above).
How do you manage your work/life balance?
Focus on “one thing at a time” in order to prioritize.
If you weren’t working in IT, what would you be doing instead?
Genetic biologist (molecular phylogenetics/systematics), bread baker, or language translator.
What do you do in your spare time? Do you have any hobbies?
Read, cook (bbq and bake), as well as tinker.
What are you most excited about seeing at the event?
The presentations from WekaIO and Komprise.
What is the coolest thing you’re working on right now?
rPi K8s demo learning cluster.

As a child, what did you want to do when you “grew up”?
Astronaut.
What superhero movie character would you like to be and why?
Spidey – it isn’t always brute force but brainpower counts, too!
What is your favorite thing about what you do?
Enabling people to do more cool things with tech.

Learn more first-hand about other cultures and food / customs.
