Over the past couple of events, we had a new delegate find his way into our community. Everyone join us in welcoming Marc Staimer! Marc is an industry expert and consultant in the Data Center and Cloud. He joined us for Tech Field Day Presents Scality and HPE and AI Field Day. How did you get into technology and IT?
When I was born it was a rough birth and a nascent computer was implanted in my head to substitute for the brain damage. Since then, every year I have been upgraded. More recently, the upgrades have been coming monthly. Ransomware has become a bit of a %$*#()%$#
What do you do now? Tell us a little about your current role.
Industry expert, analyst, and consultant in all things in the data center and the cloud.
What are your biggest challenges?
Explaining to industry marketing people why and how their marketing messaging and efforts are not creating the call-to-action they’re seeking.
Where do you see IT going in the next 3-5 years?
More AI-based automation, less manual intervention, fewer human decisions.
What was your first computer? What was great about it? What is your go-to computer now?
Mac 128, yes I’m that old.
If you weren’t working in IT, what would you be doing instead?
Acting in a theater on the stage or stand-up comedy, whichever pays better.
What do you do in your spare time? Do you have any hobbies?
Working on the grand unification theory of all major forces.
What are you most excited about seeing at the event?
Bright, interesting people. I’m an internal optimist.
Who inspires you?
My wife, my daughters, and Ryan Reynolds.
As a child, what did you want to do when you “grew up”?
Fly jet fighters.
What superhero movie character would you like to be and why?
Deadpool. Love his wry sense of humor.
What is your favorite thing about what you do?
Speaking engagements and training salespeople how to effectively sell.
If you won the lottery and could retire, what would you do with your time?
I’d consult…which is what I do now.
